There are five important things you must know about the outdoors before venturing outside for any length of time. Having this knowledge and being prepared is the key to having a good experience.
1. The sun can be harmful
The suns UV rays can do a lot of damage to our skin. The most obvious is a sun burn, but over time it can lead to skin cancer. Always wear sunscreen
2. Keep hydrated
Being outdoors, especially if you are exercising, it is quite easy to become dehydrated. Always carry water with you
3. Be prepared for the weather
Check the local forecasts before going outdoors. Be sure to choose light colored, light weight clothing for hotter temperatures. Wear plenty of layers in the cold.
4. Bugs can cause harm
Research the types of bugs in the area you will be outdoors in. Smaller bugs can be avoided with common bug sprays designed to wear on your body. To prevent ticks, wear long pants tucked into boots.
5. Keep yourself safe
Before going outdoors for a run or hike, let others know where you plan to go and how long you will be gone. Carry a cell phone for emergencies.
